Stand where Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run
Most people know Babe Ruth, “The Babe,” or “The Great Bambino” as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He was the first athlete to become famous outside of his sports community and was well known for his many home runs. Most people don’t know, however, that his very first home run was hit in Fayetteville while playing a game with the Baltimore Orioles en route to Florida for spring training. On the same trip, he was teasingly nicknamed “Dunn’s Baby,” after the team learned manager Jack Dunn had legally adopted Ruth to keep him with the Orioles, and the name was later shortened to “Babe.” Visit the spot where it all went down on your way through town, then grab something to eat before taking in the history that fills this military town.
