Enjoy NASCAR legend Richard Childress’s other passion
When you hear Richard Childress, most think of the racing legend and team owner. But everyone has hobbies — and Childress’s is wine. The 72 acres of Childress Vineyards, located in Clemmons and Lexington near his racing operations, make up the largest winery in the Yadkin Valley and produce more than 30 wines from classic house blends to reserves, sparkling and muscadine wines. Since opening in 2004, the winery has received more than 750 medals and is acknowledged as the premier wine maker in the state. To get the full experience, tour the vineyards, sip the selection in the tasting room, and have lunch at the bistro. Childress Vineyards also offers online ordering and a wine club to have wines shipped straight to your door.
