Tour the only House of Flags Museum in the nation
Read stories of history and patriotism for more than 300 different flags at the House of Flags Museum near Lake Lure. Prior to his death in 2008, George Scofield worked tirelessly to found and curate the museum alongside the Polk County Veterans of Foreign Wars and instill patriotism in younger generations. All of the flags were donated by local veterans, citizens and visitors or purchased through donations. Through self-guided or narrated tours, the unique museum tells a story of America’s struggle for identity and freedom. Flags commemorating military service and religion, the birth of our nation and historic wars explain how our country has become what it is today. You’ll even find 27 full-size official United States flags from 1776 to 1960. See for yourself why the House of Flags museum is where patriotism lives.
