Take the original Krispy Kreme Challenge, if you dare

Eating 12 doughnuts and running 5 miles in one hour — think you can handle it? Each February, more than 8,000 people gather to run the annual Krispy Kreme Challenge in Raleigh. What started as a dare between students at NC State has since made its way onto lists like Sports Illustrated’s “102 More Things You Gotta Do Before You Graduate” and The Runner’s Bucket List: “200 Races to Run Before You Die.” Teams with names like “Glazed and Confused” and “The Upchucks” don costumes and sprint 2.5 miles to the Krispy Kreme to down 12 glazed donuts and then race back to the finish line to raise money for the UNC Children’s Hospital. Those who complete it within an hour claim victory.
