Take a hike through the ‘Grand Canyon’ of North Carolina

Want to stand in awe looking 1,400 feet down into the wilderness? Sometimes referred to as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” Linville Gorge is one of the most scenic and rugged gorges in the eastern United States. For 12 miles, the steep walls of the gorge enclose the Linville River as it descends almost 2,000 feet into the Catawba Valley. Grab your pack and venture out to hunt, fish, rock climb, mountain bike and hike through the forest where you can blaze your own trail and admire the incredible views of Pisgah National Forest. Follow the east and west ridges to discover one of the many small canyons or stop by the Linville Falls Visitor Center from April 15 to Nov. 1 for inside information, treats and great tales of the area.
