Hitch up at the most Western town in the East
The most Western town in eastern America is located in the middle of North Carolina. Love Valley is an authentic old Western town located in the Little Brushy Mountains just north of Statesville in central North Carolina. This is no movie set, but it could be. The entire town was built to resemble something out of a classic Western movie and is one of several offbeat places for visitors to see in North Carolina. Love Valley is known as the “Cowboy Capital” of North Carolina, where visitors ride into town on horseback along a dirt road and hitch up their horses at the saloon, tack shop or blacksmith shop. The town was created in the 1950s by former mayor (and owner of the land) Andy Barker, a general contractor who dreamed of living in a Western town. The town is a horseback riding paradise with saddle shops, a rodeo arena, more than 800 acres of horse trails and horse rentals. Love Valley hosts several events throughout the year including rodeos, horse and wagon parades, concerts and an annual chili cook-off. The town also includes restaurants, saloons and Presbyterian and Christian Fellowship churches.
