Knock one back at a unique, organic brewery-farm-butchery
Located near Jarvisburg on the Currituck County coast, Weeping Radish Brewery, Farm and Butchery is North Carolina’s oldest microbrewery. Weeping Radish is more than just a stop for beer lovers along the state’s coast. The facility includes a farm and butchery as well as a restaurant/pub. The focus of all the offerings at Weeping Radish is to be organic and natural. Owner Uli Bennewitz started brewing beer 25 years ago, after helping pass legislation that allowed breweries to sell beer directly to customers in the state. His beer has always adhered to the German Reinheitsgebot Purity Law by being all natural and unfiltered with no chemicals or preservatives, and the farm, butchery and restaurant also focus on natural, hormone-free local products. Bennewitz, who grew up on a farm in Bavaria, is now even making a beer that is produced from all locally grown hops. IPA 25 celebrates the 25th anniversary of Weeping Radish and the state’s microbrew industry, an industry that has grown to more than 250 craft breweries – more than any other state in the South.
